The AEAS Test is a written exam, conducted in person. It takes approximately 3.5 hours from start to finish. Regular testing is scheduled in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, and individual arrangements can be made for Vietnamese students located in other parts of Vietnam.
The AEAS Test includes:
- English language ability (Reading, Writing, Vocabulary, Listening and Speaking)
- non-verbal general ability (no English language involved); and
- mathematical reasoning
Students sit the specific AEAS Test for the year level they wish to enter in their Australian school:
- Years 4-6;
- Years 7-9; and
- Years 10-12
Our examiners take great care to ensure that students sit tests which are are age and level appropriate, and it is important to understand that there is no pass or fail when taking the AEAS Test – the results are a point-in-time assessment of your child’s abilities. This information is presented and explained in the three-page, individualised AEAS Test Report which considers a student’s AEAS test results, school reports, observations from testing and a range of other information to provide a personalised recommendation for each student.
All of the members of the Australian Schools Alliance Vietnam require students applying to their schools to sit the AEAS Test as a mandatory component of their admission procedures.
The AEAS Test is designed specifically to examine the skills and abilities of school-aged students, and provides a more accurate result than other common English tests (e.g. IELTS, TOEFL, PTE) which are created for adult learners and therefore cover topics and skills which are too difficult for younger students.
Having an AEAS Test Report can help your child’s application stand out from the crowd. Don’t wait to be asked by schools to provide additional information and supporting documents!
The AEAS Report helps you to plan your child’s best entry point and determine likely English and High School Preparation requirements, timelines and costs in advance. The AEAS Test Report can inform planning to ensure there are no surprises when it comes time to prepare for school commencement.
Taking an AEAS Test will provide you with accurate and trusted results, which can sometimes mean a reduced ELICOS requirement or even direct entry into top schools. Taking an AEAS Test can also potentially save families thousands of dollars in unnecessary weeks of ELICOS (intensive English language course), or help to better understand areas for improvement and attention before commencement in their Australian school.
Ultimately, the AEAS Test Report will help you and your child plan and prepare.

This feedback helps students focus their efforts on specific skills and concepts, allowing for targeted study and preparation.
AEAS Practice Test Booklets
AEAS Practice Test booklets serve as a valuable, hard-copy resource for self-study and revision. As the AEAS Test is a handwritten test, many students prefer the experience of preparing by using the AEAS Practice Test Booklets.
